Pertaining to the acceptance of a donation from Fluidmaster Corporation and the direction that the donated items be used to assist people in ACP50 areas of Saint Paul.
Body
WHEREAS, the Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul provides water to over 90,000 households and 4,500 businesses in Saint Paul and surrounding municipalities; and
WHEREAS, billing for water is based upon the volume (expressed as number of units) of water supplied to each property during the billing period; and
WHEREAS, a property with a running or leaking toilet can register very high usage, which in turn leads to very high bills and the wasting of water; and
WHEREAS, staff works to locate properties where registered high usage appears to be related to a faulty toilet or other causes and sends notices to the account holder on record to alert them of the possible need for plumbing repairs, thus lowering their water bill and reducing waste of water; and
WHEREAS, some customers are unaware of what equipment is needed for such repair, or are unable to afford it; and
WHEREAS, Fluidmaster Corporation of San Juan Capistrano, California kindly donated 100 fill valves and 105 flappers as a gift to the Board; and
WHEREAS, the Board plans to put these items to good use in connection with its program to assist lower-income customers in Saint Paul’s ACP50 areas which encompasses Frogtown, North End, and Payne Phalen Neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the Board expresses its gratitude to Fluidmaster Corporation for its generosity and kindness in making this donation to assist people in need of a helping hand; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul gratefully accepts this donation of 100 fill valves and 105 flappers from Fluidmaster Corporation and directs staff to provide these items to assist people in ACP50 areas of Saint Paul as they find need in the places where they live and work.
