Approving the agreement between the Fire Department and Ropes that Rescue, Ltd. for structure and tower rope rescue training.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Pau Fire Department has identified a need for a course on structure and tower rope rescue; and
WHEREAS, Ropes that Rescue, Ltd. offers appropriate instruction session and the contract requires that the City indemnify the contractor for injuries or damages to person or property except those caused by the contractor's gross sit; and
WHEREAS, the course will teach a skill needed to protect the public in the event of an emergency requiring rope rescue skills, a possibility with the bluffs along the Mississippi River and other potential situations; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Education and Training (MBFTE) has awarded a contribution of $75,000 to the Fire Department to pay for this training and this was approved on Council Resolution PH 18-280; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the expenditure of public funds in the form of promise of indemnification serves a public purpose as it will enable the course to be taught and the firefighters to learn this valuable skill; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the proper city official to sign a contract with Ropes that Rescue, Ltd. which contains an indemnification provision.
