Title
Authorizing the Police Department to accept the Community Crime Prevention 2014 grant in the amount of $194,698 from the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety, which will support collaborative efforts with the YWCA and the Neighborhood House to reduce youth based crime.  
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the Community Crime Prevention 2014 grant (Attachment A) by the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety (MN Statute 299A.296) which includes an indemnification clause; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to support the collaborative efforts of the YWCA, Saint Paul, the Neighborhood House, Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Police Department in their efforts to reduce youth based crime and to address disproportionate minority contact and juvenile crime recidivism as well as an increase in the community's ability to address needs and engage in problem solving; and
WHEREAS, the 2013 financing and spending plan needs to be amended for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $75,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2013 budget; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor recommends that the following addition be made to the 2013 budget, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Chief Thomas Smith to implement the attached agreement with the State of Minnesota which includes an indemnification clause and approves the changes to the 2013 budget.
