Title

Authorizing the Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $100,000 from the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety Homeland Security for the Law Enforcement and Terrorism Protection project.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department (SPPD) wishes to enter into a grant agreement with the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division for the Law Enforcement and Terrorism Prevention project in the amount of $100,000 for a term of January 1,2016 to December 31, 2016; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant will fund sergeant and officer overtime for the department’s East and West African community outreach program which includes attending community events and programs; and

 

WHEREAS, the department’s East and West African community outreach program builds a positive police relationship with this community, especially the youth to prevent the disenfranchisement which can lead to radicalization; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council approves entering into and authorizes Chief Thomas Smith to implement the grant agreement with the State of Minnesota.
