Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to purchase and provide up to $1,500 of food and refreshments for staff working the 2023 Hmong Sports Tournament.

WHEREAS, the Hmong Sports Tournament is an annual event held at McMurray fields in Saint Paul, and in 2023 it will be held on July 1st and July 2nd, with an additional clean up day on July 3rd, and;
WHEREAS, the event requires a large amount of City staff to run and maintain the event site from 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 6:00 a.m. on Monday until the clean up is done, and;
WHEREAS, due to traffic, weather, and the overall nature of the event, staff are unable to take normal breaks or leave the site for food and beverage, and;
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has historically purchased and provided refreshments, fruit, and lunch or dinner for the employees assigned to work the event, and;
WHEREAS, the United Hmong Family Inc. will reimburse the City up to $60,000 in 2023 toward the costs incurred from the event, including the costs for providing employees food and refreshments during the event, and;
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds a public benefit to hosting this annual event and providing employees food and beverage to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the event that welcomes more than 40,000 visitors and participants; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to spend up to $1,500 for the purchase of food and refreshments for employees assigned to work the 2023 Hmong Sports Tournament.
