Recognizing the Saint Paul and Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project and 10th Annual Northland Cup Charity Hockey Game.

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul and Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (SPIP) is a grassroots organization that exists to eliminate violence against women and their children, and the social and system responses that condone or allow its oppression; and
WHEREAS, SPIP affirms that all victims of domestic abuse must be free to make their own choices, have the right to dignity and possess the capacity to make sound decisions if free from the violence that obstructs these choices; and
WHEREAS, SPIP believes that no one has the right to abuse anyone and no one deserves to be abused regardless of spiritual belief, mental or physical ability, age, race, sexual orientation, partner/marital status, gender, or socio-economic background; and
WHEREAS, SPIP serves more than 6,000 residents annually (and their children) and 9,000 more call for support, information, and referrals on their 24-hour crisis line; and
WHEREAS, in 2022 across Minnesota, at least 24 people died from domestic violence related homicides; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 2, 2023, City of Saint Paul staff and Ramsey County Staff formed teams to host the 10th Annual Northland Cup Charity Hockey Game, raising critical funds for the Saint Paul and Ramsey County Intervention Project; and
WHEREAS, during the 2023 Northland Cup Charity Hockey game Ramsey County players scored 8 goals and Saint Paul players scored 3 goals, raising over $20,000 for SPIP; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council recognizes the incredible efforts of Saint Paul and Ramsey County Intervention Project and their critical support services to the victims of domestic violence.
