The downtown will now become a food dessert. I understand that none of the council live downtown and for that matter, I don't either, I live on Cathedral Hill ( I shop almost exclusively at Lunds and Byerlys) but many of my customers try to live downtown and this closing will make it that much harder. I run a business downtown and I can tell you that everytime a person downtown has to get in a car to do their basic shopping they will pick up whatever they need elsewhere...oh and that extta percentage of sales tax. I read about the grand plans to turn downtown's empty office buildings into apartments and condos but you also need to provide the ability to get staples without getting in a car or you are offering empty promises. I want to see a plan to convine L/B to stay or bring another grocery store in.
