Proclaiming Friday, October 7, 2011 to be Kwame JC McDonald Day in the City of Saint Paul.
 
Body
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has served the City of Saint Paul and the State of Minnesota for many years as a community leader; high school and college educator; community activist; youth and sports advocate; state government administrator and photojournalist; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has been an exemplary civic leader in education reform through his service as the executive director of the Minnesota State Commission Against Discrimination, the Governor's Council on Youth, and participated on several local, state and federal government commissions, committees and task forces; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald, a graduate of Central College in Ohio has been an academic leader in the State of Minnesota through his service as the Assistant Director of the School Reform Project at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs- Center for  School Change; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has a record of academic leadership that includes service as a  college  administrator and instructor at Rutgers University (NJ), New York University, Shaw University (NJ), Barber Scotia College (NC), and Sarah Lawrence College (NY), among others; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has been a model community leader through his leading role in building a collaboration and bridge between the African American community, the Cultural Wellness Center and Ramsey County Workforce Solutions; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has been a leader in youth development and athletics through his service with the David M. Winfield Foundation for Underprivileged Children, the Harry W. Davis Foundation; and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald has made outstanding journalistic contributions to the community through his service as host of the SPNN-TV Sports Rap, writer for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder newspaper, guest columnist for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press and author of the book, Jim Griffin:  Son of Rondo, and
 
WHEREAS, Kwame JC McDonald continues to provide leadership to our community as a husband, father, big brother, uncle, and respected elder and the City of Saint Paul commends Kwame JC McDonald for his exemplary service to our great City; now,
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby proclaims Friday, October 7, 2011 to be Kwame JC McDonald Day in the City of Saint Paul.
