Declaring October 4, 2011 to be Lorene Rademacher Geheren Day.
 
Body
WHEREAS, Lorene Rademacher Geheren was born on October 4, 1911, to Louis and Wilhemina Rademacher; and,
 
WHEREAS, as a young child Lorene moved to Saint Paul with her parents and sister, Laverne; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene attended Van Buren Elementary School on Bates Avenue, and in the early 1920's was the first girl to serve on the Saint Paul School Patrol, thereby being perhaps the first School Patrol girl in the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene attended and graduated from Johnson High School in Saint Paul; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene successfully worked in sales for almost 30 years for Brown and Bigelow Company in Saint Paul; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene, through the Saint Theresa's Club, met the Geheren family of Saint Paul, and in 1942 married Gerald Geheren, then in the United States Army.  After honorable service overseas, Gerald returned and he and Lorene established a household on Saint Paul's east side, while Lorene worked at Brown and Bigelow and Gerald eventually became a Minnesota Assistant Attorney General; and,
 
WHEREAS,  Lorene and Gerald lived for over 40 years at 1513 E. 7th Street, in the home Gerald's parents had built in 1924, and were outstanding neighbors and friends to all in that neighborhood; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene had no children, but had close and caring relationships with many nieces and nephews, including former Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Director Victor Wittgenstein and former interim Saint Paul City Attorney Gerald Hendrickson; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene now resides in Lyngblomsten Nursing Home in Saint Paul where she will celebrate her 100th birthday; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lorene has lived a life in Saint Paul for over 90 years as a caring and gentle classmate, citizen, wife, aunt and neighbor in a manner that makes Saint Paul a great place to live;
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council, in recognition of and thanks for her long life as a kind, gentle and engaged citizen of Saint Paul, hereby declares October 4, 2011 as Lorene Rademacher Geheren Day in the City of Saint Paul, and hereby congratulates her and sends her best wishes.
