Approving the contracts for FairVote MN and the Saint Paul League of Women Voters to provide public education on the ranked voting process.
Body
WHEREAS, the first election using the ranked voting method in the City of Saint Paul will be the one held on November 8, 2011; and
WHEREAS, since Saint Paul voters have not had experience with this form of voting, it is critical extra effort be placed on educating the public; and
WHEREAS, anticipating this need for additional public education, the City identified $75,000 in its 2011 budget for this effort; and
WHEREAS, FairVote MN and the Saint Paul League of Women Voters have requested financial support ($19,000 and $6,000 respectively) to provide enhanced public education on ranked voting; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council approve the contracts for FairVote MN and the Saint Paul League of Women Voters to provide public education on the ranked voting process.
