Proclaiming Wednesday, June 8, 2011 to be Acooa Lee Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, Acooa B. Lee hails from the incomparable city of Davenport, Iowa, home of countless distinguished Americans such as the legendary Bix Beiderbecke, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Otto Frederick Rohwedder, inventor of mass produced sliced bread; and
WHEREAS, Acooa holds a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Iowa in 2000, and a Master of Public Policy degree in Social Policy from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Acooa has served the Twin Cities community greatly since leaving the fine state of Iowa, as a Vocational Counselor at Summit Academy OIC, a Community Development Fellow for the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, and as a Planning Analyst for Hennepin County; and
WHEREAS, on January 2, 2008, Acooa accepted the position of Legislative Aide to Council Member Melvin W. Carter III, and has assumed critical roles in the fights for additional stations and community benefits along the Central Corridor Light Rail Line; for community-based education reform through the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood (formerly known as the Community Investment Campus, formerly known as Operation CPR); creation of the City’s Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity; and several policy initiatives; and
WHEREAS, upon accepting the position in Councilmember Carter’s office, she promptly set about finding both a house and a spouse in Ward 1; and
WHEREAS, Acooa has contributed to her community as a Citizen’s League board member, advisory board member for the Multicultural Endowment Fund of the Saint Paul Foundation, and is an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and
WHEREAS, Acooa has accepted a position in Supplier Diversity at Target Corporation, and will be moving on from City Hall, effective June 10, 2011;
