Accepting gifts of air transportation and hotel costs from the Brookings Institution for Mayor Coleman to attend their Metropolitan Policy Program in Barcelona, Spain from June 6th - 8th, 2011 for three days of intensive learning and discussion on the future of metropolitan economic development.

WHEREAS, the Brookings Institution has invited the Mayor to attend their Metropolitan Policy Program in Barcelona, Spain from June 6th - 8th, 2011 for three days of intensive learning and discussion on the future of metropolitan economic development; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor is invited to tour some of Barcelona's most successful economic initiatives to discover how they are approaching economic development; and
WHEREAS, the Brookings Institution will pay for airfare, hotel and food, not to exceed $2,500; and
WHEREAS, conference participants will get to hear from European and U.S. leaders on their decisive work to advance the economic prosperity of metropolitan areas. They will also participate in a public conference where leaders from the U.S. and Europe will offer insights into the advancement of metropolitan economies; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts the gift of conference lodging and air travel and appropriates it to the intended use for the Mayor to attend the conference, and thanks the Brookings Institution for its generous gift.
