Accepting the gift of travel from the Harlem Children's Zone for Councilmember Melvin Carter III to participate in a meeting in Washington D.C. on May 3, 2011 to discuss the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood initiative.

WHEREAS, Geoffrey Canada of the Harlem Children's Zone has invited Councilmember Melvin Carter to participate in a meeting held on Washington D.C. with Senator Al Franken, on May 3, 2011, for the purpose of discussing the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood initiative, and to share innovative policy and resources; and
WHEREAS, the Harlem Children's Zone has offered to provide the cost of travel for Councilmember Carter to attend said event; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the gift of travel from the Harlem Children's Zone and appropriates it to the public purpose of Councilmember Carter's attendance; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Council determines this to have public purpose and the Council extends its thanks and appreciation to the Harlem Children's Zone for its generosity and public service in this matter.
