Opposing the demolition of recreation centers.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, with the assistance of the Parks and Recreations Commission and various plan consultants, prepared a Parks and Recreation System Plan entitled, "Transformation of the Saint Paul Park and Recreation System" dated December 2010; and,
WHEREAS, this System Plan anticipates future needs for park and recreation services in the future, evaluates resources, and makes recommendations for future actions regarding park and recreation services; and,
WHEREAS, among other things, the System Plan recommends the closures and removal of four recreation centers; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has concerns about the recommended closures; now,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council opposes the demolition of any recreation center buildings for a period of no less that two years unless further specified.
