Recognizing Verna Gilson for her legacy of public service in the North End.
 
Body
WHEREAS, Verna Gilson was a remarkable woman, a treasure of the North End neighborhood, who loved her community and was known and loved by many; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna Gilson, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the age of 79; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna was deeply involved with the Saint Paul district council system from its inception, serving as an active member of the District 6 Land Use Committee until her passing; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna was a stalwart member of the Tri-Area Block Club; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna will be remembered for her pragmatic, "let's get something done" attitude; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna's wealth of contributions to the North End community, and to the City of Saint Paul are greatly appreciated; and
 
WHEREAS, Verna's positive example of active citizen participation has been deeply valued, and has strengthened the fabric of our community. Now therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council wishes to express its sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Verna Gilson, posthumously, for representing the embodiment of service to community, which she so generously demonstrated, and the Council extends its sincere condolences to both Vera Gilson's family and friends, in the event of her passing; and be it
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby declares that Wednesday, April 13, 2011 be forever known as VERNA M. GILSON DAY in the great city of Saint Paul, Minnesota.  May God bless her.
