Accepting a gift of travel expenses and lodging for Councilmember Melvin Carter to attend the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network National Convening held June 2-5, 2011.

WHEREAS, the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network has invited Councilmember Melvin Carter to participate in the 2011 YEO National Convening, held June 2-5, 2011, in Washington, D.C., for the purpose of gathering young, elected officials from around the country to engage in networking, personal and professional skill building, and to share innovative policy and resources; and
WHEREAS, the Young Elected Officials Network has offered to provide three nights lodging, and has granted a scholarship for 75% of travel expenses, totaling no more than $400, for Councilmember Carter to attend said event; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the gift of lodging and travel from the Young Elected Officials Network and appropriates it to the public purpose of Councilmember Carter's attendance at the 2011 YEO National Convening; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Council determines this to have public purpose and the Council extends its thanks and appreciation to the Young Elected Officials Network for its generosity and public service in this matter.
