Celebrating the 60th anniversary of St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School.

Body
WHEREAS, St. Pascal Baylon Parish was established on May 26, 1946, when Archbishop John Murray assigned Fr. John Ryan as Pastor; and,

WHEREAS, shortly following the dedication of the church it became a high priority for the parish community to establish a school to educate the growing number of families on the East Side; and,

WHEREAS, with Sister Alice Gertrude Hassing as the first principal and Sisters Eunice Tussing, Blanche Rhys, and Alice Baumgartner on staff, St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School, opened its doors on September 7, 1950, with nearly 200 students in attendance; and,

WHEREAS, dedicated to total education of each child, the school rapidly expanded to an overall enrollment of 1200 students, prompting the building of the West Wing in 1963, the addition of a kindergarten in 1974, and major renovations to the school building in 2001; and,

WHEREAS, for 60 years St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School has succeeded in its mission to strive for effective teaching, responsive learning and academic excellence through an understanding and application of Catholic principles and by meeting the varying needs of individual students, stressing creative teaching and employing various learning styles; and,

WHEREAS, today St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School continues its tradition of educating students to excel in high school and beyond and now draws students not only from Saint Paul, but from Woodbury, Oakdale, Maplewood and other surrounding communities; and,

WHEREAS, St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School will formally recognize its 60th Anniversary with an all-school celebration on Saturday, November 27, 2010,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council lauds St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School for providing 60 years of quality education on the East Side of Saint Paul and declares Saturday, November 27, 2010 to be St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School day in the City of S...
