WHEREAS, Edward Nao Yeng Yang was born on April 12, 1964, in Nam Song, Xieng Khouang, Laos to Goua Lor and Chong Blong Yang, he was the seventh of eleven children and lost his mother at the age of 9, which instilled him with a profound sense of humility, resilience, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, Nao Yeng Yang was a school student when the CIA Secret War in Laos ceased, in 1982 under the secrecy of night, he fled to Ban Vinai Refugee Camp and between 1984 and 1987 he would return to Laos to retrieve his parents, brothers, cousins, fellow soldiers, and over 710 people with him to Thailand; and

WHEREAS, Nao Yeng Yang married Mao Vang on December 25, 1957, when he knew that his children would not be born into a world that rained bombs every day, they arrived in the United States on April 12, 1989, and have a total of six children and ten grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Nao Yeng Yang lived his life in partnership with his community, he was the President of the Yang Family Support Organization for 12 years and during this time led the development of it’s its very first Yang New Year and Yang Valentines Valentine's celebration, chaired the 2019-2020 Hmong-American New Year celebration, led the fundraising efforts and hosted Koos Loos, Ulias, and Tsua Muas, unequivocally supported both the Minnesota chapter and national chapter of the Yang Wang Meng Association, along with the Hmong 18 Council of Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Nao Yeng Yang was a gifted problem solver and was known for his ability to find practical and thoughtful solutions, he possessed the rare ability to bridge communities; and

WHEREAS, Above all, Nao Yeng Yang will be remembered for his generosity and the profound impact he had on the lives of those who received his kindness, he leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and compassion; and
