Authorizing the City on behalf of the Police Department (“SPPD”) to accept and amend the 2024 Special Fund Budget for a Pathways to Policing Grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). (Public hearing closed and laid over from May 1, 2024)

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) has awarded a 2024-26 Pathways to Policing Grant to the SPPD for $75,000; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant covers as much as 50% of eligible expenses associated with individuals who are in an SPPD pathways program and complete Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements to become a law enforcement officer during the period of 6.1.2024 to 6.30.2026; and

 

WHEREAS, there is a 1:1 matching fund requirement for this award, which can be fulfilled through already-budgeted funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Police Department received approval to apply for this grant with RES 24-5; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2024 financing and spending plans need to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation total revenues in excess of those estimated in the budget, funds of $75,000 in the Special Fund; now

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor that $75,000 is available for appropriation in the Police Department Special Fund, as heretofore adopted and amended by this Council, be hereby further amended in the particulars as specified in the attached financial analysis.
