WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, has been awarded an Auto Theft - Dedicated Investigator grant to the Police Department from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Auto Theft Prevention Grants Program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Auto Theft - Dedicated Investigator grant covers the three-year period of 7.1.23 to 6.30.26 and is for $309,000 ($103,000 per each year of the grant) that will be used for personnel and training costs of one Officer who is dedicated to auto theft prevention; and

 

WHEREAS, this award does not include a matching funds requirement; and

 

WHEREAS, authorization to apply for these grants was provided in RES 23-212, passed in February 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2023 financing and spending plans need to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation total revenues in excess of those estimated in the budget, funds of $309,000 in the Special Fund; now

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that the Police Department is authorized to accept this award from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Auto Theft Prevention Grants Program, and that $309,000 is available for appropriation in the Police Department Special Fund, as heretofore adopted and amended by this Council, be hereby further amended in the particulars as specified in the attached financial analysis.
