Accepting the gift of travel expenses from the Aspen Institute for Mayor Melvin Carter to attend the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado, from June 26-28, 2023.

WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society driving change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the most important challenges facing the United States and the world; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute is hosting the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado, June 24-30, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Ideas Festival brings together public officials, artists, scientists, authors, business executives, scholars, economists, foreign policy specialists, entrepreneurs, and leaders of all kinds around substantive themes that speak to this unique moment in history as well as providing sessions on those topics; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Carter will be a featured speaker at two sessions during this year’s festival; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds Mayor Carter’s attendance at the Aspen Ideas Festival will be beneficial to the City, providing an opportunity to promote our efforts in Saint Paul, while further cultivating opportunities to support our community; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby accepts the gift of travel expenses to include travel, lodging, and meals for Mayor Carter not to exceed $3,000 to attend the Aspen Ideas Festival from June 26-28, 2023, in Aspen, Colorado, and thanks the Aspen Institute for its generous gift.
