WHEREAS, The Black Economic Alliance (BEA) is a nonpartisan alliance of Black business leaders and allies focused on driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders; and
WHEREAS, BEA is hosting a summit on March 21 in New York, NY featuring a cross-sectoral lineup of decision-makers for a day of collaboration, inspiration, and mobilization working to advance work, wages, and wealth across the Black community to expand Black economic prosperity and wealth-building; and
WHEREAS, BEA invited Mayor Carter to speak at the Black Economic Alliance (BEA) Solutions Summit in New York, NY, on March 21, 2023; and
WHEREAS, BEA has offered to pay travel expenses for Mayor Melvin Carter to attend the Black Economic Alliance Solutions Summit; and
WHEREAS, building consensus on meaningful solutions to expand economic prosperity and mitigate wealth and income inequality and are within the alignment of Mayor Carter’s initiatives supporting Saint Paul residents and community members; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds Mayor Carter’s attendance at the Black Economic Alliance Solutions Summit will be beneficial to the City in providing a deeper understanding of approaches to economic equity; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby accepts the gift of travel, food, and lodging expenses for Mayor Carter to attend the Black Economic Alliance Solutions Summit, and thanks to BEA for its generous gift.
