Title

Authorizing the City to accept a $15,000 grant from the American Immigration Council for the purpose of assisting in the implementation of the recommendations from the Journey to Belonging in the Twin Cities multi-sector strategic plan; and authorizing a corresponding budget amendment.

Body

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council and Mayor Melvin Carter are dedicated to making Saint Paul a welcoming city of all including immigrants and refugees; and

WHEREAS, Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce received the Gateways for Growth Challenge Award for 2021; and

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul was selected as one of ten communities to received customized research and individualized technical assistance from the Gateways for Growth Initiative - an initiative of the American Immigration Council (formally known as the New American Economy) and Welcoming America - to develop a multi-sector strategic plan during the one-year period from December 2020 to December 2021.

WHEREAS, in December 2021, Gateways for Growth extended the technical assistance period to March 31, 2022; and

WHEREAS, in January 2022, Gateways for Growth announced the launching of the Gateways for Growth Technical Assistance and Grants program which will provide an additional six months of technical assistance from March 31, 2022 through September 2022, and grant funding of up to $20,000 to support Gateway for Growth Awardees implementation of their multi-sector strategic plan; and

WHEREAS, Gateways for Growth awarded Saint Paul an additional six months of technical assistance and through the American Immigration Council, the Gateways for Growth awarded Saint Paul a $15,000 grant to assist in the implementation of the recommendations from the Journey to Belonging in the Twin Cities multi-sector strategic plan; and

WHEREAS, implementing the recommendations of the strategic plan will make Saint Paul a more welcoming city of all including immigrant and refugees; and
