Accepting the gift of the costs of travel, food, and lodging from Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI), so that Mayor Melvin Carter can attend the 2022 Guaranteed Income NOW! Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 28, 2022.

WHEREAS, MGI is hosting a conference and convening Mayors across the country advocating for a guaranteed income and improving the financial well-being among individuals, families, and communities of color in the United States; and
WHEREAS, MGI invited Mayor Carter to speak at the 2022 Guaranteed Income NOW! Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 28, 2022; and
WHEREAS, MGI offered to pay travel expenses for Mayor Melvin Carter to attend the 2022 Guaranteed Income NOW! Conference; and
WHEREAS, guaranteed income programs, such as the People’s Prosperity Guaranteed Income Pilot, are designed to mitigate wealth and income inequality and are within the alignment of Mayor Carter’s goals and initiatives in supporting Saint Paul residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds Mayor Carter’s attendance at the Guaranteed Income NOW! Conference will be beneficial to the City in providing a deeper understanding of approaches to economic equity; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby accepts the gift of up to $2,000 toward the cost of travel, food, and lodging expenses for Mayor Carter to attend the 2022 Guaranteed Income NOW! Conference, and thanks to MGI for its generous gift.
