Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for and accept a grant from the National League of Cities for the Youth Excel Initiative in an amount of $150,000 to improve systems supporting equitable economic success for young people, focusing on STEM career opportunities.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department is prepared to accept grant funds from the National League of Cities for systems improvement in youth employment; and,

 

WHEREAS, the grant will provide financial and technical support in improving systems for young people to join the workforce in STEM; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation would like to accept the funds to help support the Right Track team in building a bigger coalition of STEM career supporters; and,

 

WHEREAS, STEM careers in Saint Paul are on the rise, and we need young people eager and prepared to fill them; and,

 

WHEREAS, the mission of Right Track is to connect Saint Paul youth and young adults with meaningful work experience, training and career exploration opportunities so they are prepared to thrive and prosper; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Right Track program has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Saint Paul hereby authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for and accept the Youth Excel Grant from the National League of Cities for $150,000.
