Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into a contract with Zoetis LLC to use their proprietary SARS-CoV-2 investigational Vaccine for several of the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory’s mammals including big cats and great apes as protection against COVID-19, which includes indemnification language.

WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is an AZA accredited institution with an animal collection of over 1,500 animals representing 157 species; and
WHEREAS, Zoetis LLC, the largest global animal health company, has offered the use of their Investigational SARS-CoV-2 vaccine at no expense to the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the investigational vaccine, which has been used at over 70 other US zoos, is provided via injection into several of the Zoo’s rare and endangered mammals to stimulate an immune response against the virus that causes COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, the use of the investigational vaccine is Como Park Zoo & Conservatory’s best option to protect its mammals including big cats and great apes against COVID-19; and
WHEREAS; Zoetic LLS requires that the Department of Parks and Recreation enter into a contract, that includes indemnification language, in order to use the vaccine; Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to execute the contract with Zoetis LLC, which includes indemnification language.
