Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to partner with the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy to submit a National Football League Foundation (NFL) Grassroots grant application for $250,000 for the North End Community Center, which requires a minimum 1:1 match satisfied by budgeted CIB funds for this project.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul and Saint Paul Public Schools jointly occupy the facility known as Paul and Sheila Wellstone Elementary with City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation operating the Rice Recreation Center within that facility located at 1041 Marion Street, Saint Paul, MN 55117; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is the owner of the recreational fields located at the facility and Saint Paul Public Schools uses them as part of their programming; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul currently has Capital Improvement Budget funding of $12,000,000 for the construction of the North End Community Center and associated site improvements; and
WHEREAS, the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program is providing grants to non-profit community based organizations to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields; and
WHEREAS, the NFL requires a minimum 1:1 match for the grant that is satisfied by budgeted CIB funds for this project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul’s Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking approval to partner with the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy, a local non-profit organization, to submit a grant application requesting $250,000 through this program to provide for field improvements at the North End Community Center; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to partner with to apply for, and if the grant is awarded, enter into an agreement with the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy on the grant by the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program.
