Title

Pertaining to a grant application to the Metropolitan Council to establish a water demand reduction program.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Council (“Met Council”) is authorized by Minnesota Statutes section 473.129, subdivision 4 to apply for and use grants from the State of Minnesota for any Met Council purpose and may disburse the money in accordance with the terms of the appropriation; and

 

WHEREAS, Met Council will implement a Water Efficiency Grant Program, funded through the State of Minnesota Clean Water Fund, which will award grants to municipalities that are served by a municipal water system; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul (“Board”) has the legal authority to apply for such grants, and the financial, technical, and managerial capacity to administer a program using the funds to provide the highest benefit to participating property owners; and

 

WHEREAS, the funding can be used to develop and implement water use reduction programs and award rebates or grants to property owners within the Board’s service area for the purchase and installation of water efficient fixtures; and

 

WHEREAS, Met Council is accepting applications for this funding through March 31, 2022; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED,  that the Board does hereby direct staff to make application for grant funding of approximately $250,000 to the Met Council through its Water Efficiency Grant Program, and hereby authorizes its General Manager of Saint Paul Regional Water Services to execute any and all forms as may be required in said application.
