Title

Authorizing the Fire Department to apply for the 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $2,030,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide firefighter health and wellness exams and paramedic training and to purchase firefighter personal protective equipment and replace and update equipment.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Fire Department would like to apply for the 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to provide health and wellness training, physical/cancer/mental health screenings for firefighters, paramedic school for 15 firefighters, and purchase a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) fill station for training, computers/hardware/software to support training, an Incident Command Lab, personal protective equipment, and replace expired EMS and rescue equipment; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant amount would be $2,030,000, of which the federal government would provide $1,845,454.55 to support the grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant requires a 10% match of $184,545.45 which would be paid from the fire department's budget over the two years of the grant period of performance; Now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Fire Department to apply for the 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
