Approving the Mayor’s appointment of Farah Mohamoud and reappointments of Tom Reding and John Cardoza to the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA).
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) is formed to help families and individuals with low incomes achieve greater stability and self-reliance by providing safe, affordable, quality housing, and links to community services; and
WHEREAS, the Public Housing Agency is funded through a combination of tenant fees, federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and several State and Local programs; and
WHEREAS, the Public Housing Agency of the City of Saint Paul is a public body corporate and politic organized under Code of Federal Regulations, Title 24, Part 964, Minnesota Statutes, Section 469.003 and Minnesota Session Laws, Chapter 228 (1977) with terms of PHA appointments governed by that enabling legislation requiring that the commissioners be appointed by the mayor with the approval of the governing body; and
WHEREAS, the Public Housing Agency of the City of St. Paul is comprised of a seven-member Board of Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Gy Chajili, a current member of the Public Housing Agency, is stepping down, leaving one vacancy on the Public Housing Agency; and
WHEREAS, Farah Mohamoud applied for an appointment as a Family Housing Resident Representative on the Public Housing Agency Board and is recommended by the PHA City Wide Resident Council and the PHA Board of Directors for an appointment serving the reminder of Gy Chajili term; and
WHEREAS, Tom Reding and John Cardoza applied for reappointment as Public Housing Agency Board Members and are recommended for reappointment by PHA staff; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Carter wishes to appoint Farah Mohamoud and reappoint Tom Reding and John Cardoza to the Public Housing Agency; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves the appointment of Farah Mohamoud to a term on the Public Housing Agency ending September 1, 2022; and be it
FUTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves the reappointment of John Cardoza to a term on the Public Housing Agency ending August 01, 2023; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves the reappointment of Tom Reding to a term on the Public Housing Agency ending August 01, 2026.
