Accepting a gift of nine (9) Art stones, valued at $20,300, from the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society for the Saint Paul Changsha China Friendship Garden at Phalen Regional Park.

WHEREAS, the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society has been actively working since 2010 to fundraise for construction of a cultural garden in Phalen Regional Park; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society has received a grant to purchase, carve, deliver, and install nine art stones for the Saint Paul Changsha China Friendship Garden in Phalen Regional Park; and
WHEREAS, the art stones are a traditional element of a China garden and eight (8) of the stones will be designed or selected by local Hmong and Chinese; and
WHEREAS, one (1) stone will have a Dakota theme to express gratitude to the Dakota as original land stewards and the stone will be designated/designed by the Dakota community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Department of Parks and Recreation, wishes to accept said
art stones from the Minnesota China Garden Friendship Society for the Saint Paul Changsha China Friendship Garden; Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul accepts the donation of the nine (9) art stones and their installation from the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society and thanks the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society for its generous gift; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul hereby assures the nine art stones will be maintained for a period of no less than 20 years.
