Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for grant funds of $500 from the Leo Lewis Sports Foundation and, if awarded, accept said funds and enter into a grant agreement.
Body
WHEREAS, Lewis Sports Foundation (LSF) grant program is designed to promote youth education, physical activity, and sport in Minnesota and nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul performs significant services for residents of the Metropolitan area and all Minnesota residents through its ownership and operation of its parks, trails, and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for, and
if awarded, accept $500 in grant funds from the Leo Lewis Sports Foundation to support the McDonough Girls and Women in Sports Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds, if awarded, will provide sports equipment for youth participants in collaborative Youth Soccer Day(s) at Saint Paul Music Academy and Mississippi Creative Arts Elementary and enhance the McDonough Girls and Women in Sports Initiative; and
WHEREAS, if awarded, funding will require a grant agreement with the Leo Lewis Sports Foundation; and
WHEREAS, there is no match required of these funds by the City and other supporting agencies of the McDonough Girls and Women in Sports Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that funds to provide sports equipment to youth participants in collaborative Youth Soccer Day(s) at Saint Paul Music Academy and Mississippi Creative Arts Elementary and to enhance the McDonough Girls and Women in Sports Initiative has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Department Parks and Recreation to apply for said grant, and if awarded, enter into a grant agreement with the Leo Lewis Sports Foundation to accept said funds.
