Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for, and if awarded, accept four AmeriCorps VISTA members from the Minnesota Alliance with Youth for Recreation Services, Awakenings, and Right Track in program years 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.

Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is prepared to accept four AmeriCorps VISTA positions from the Minnesota Alliance with Youth for capacity building work in Recreation Services, Awakenings, and Right Track; and,

WHEREAS, positions, if awarded, will require a financial contribution to the Minnesota Alliance with Youth for the sum of $9,000 a year, for each member, a total of $36,000 a year or $108,000 for all three years from the Parks and Recreation budget; and

WHEREAS, Recreation Services seeks support in building its capacity to design and evaluate high-quality programs for teens; and,

WHEREAS, the Recreation Services seeks support in building its capacity to design and evaluate high-quality outdoor recreation programs for youth and families; and,

WHEREAS, Awakenings seeks support in developing new curriculum for supporting young people affected by trauma and to recruit and support volunteers to implement group activities for youth; and,

WHEREAS, Right Track seeks support in building its capacity to recruit employers, create an advisory board, and research opportunities for youth to earn school credit while working; and,

WHEREAS, in an effort to make Saint Paul a city that works for all of us, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation will facilitate the creation of active lifestyles, vibrant places and a vital environment; and,

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that Saint Paul Parks and Recreation has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Saint Paul hereby authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for, and if awarded, accept four AmeriCorps VISTA members from the Minnesota Alliance with Youth for Recreation Services...
