TITLE
Awarding 2020 COPP Funds to North End Neighborhood Organization for the Love First Initiative.
BODY
WHEREAS, During the 2020 City Budget discussion, Council Members acknowledged the need to deepen community partnerships to complement and expand the Council’s Community First Public Safety initiatives; and
WHEREAS, As a result, the City’s 2020 budget included new and increased investments in Community Ambassadors, Cure Violence, Healing Streets Project, Targeted Youth Employment, and After-School Parks & Recreation Programming; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the budget initiatives, the Council earmarked its Community Organization Partner Program (COPP) funds to resource organizations with a defined scope of work targeting residents from areas of concentrated poverty and gun-violence to complement the City’s Community First Public Safety Initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Scope of work could include direct support, prevention, intervention, and referral services and demonstrate a clear understanding of how the City’s Community First Public Safety Initiatives would complement or enhance their plans; and
WHEREAS, The work should primarily focus on reaching out to engage community youth between the ages of 13-25 years old for proposals related to gun violence, engaging and connecting residents to services and support that will disrupt and prevent gun and/or domestic violence, lead with restorative justice and community healing practices, focus on promoting positive self-esteem, healthy relationships, emotional intelligence and building positive emotion management practices, and address community healing and trauma response needs stemming from the public health and psychological impacts of residents and neighborhoods deeply and negatively impacted by gun violence and interpersonal violence; and now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, North End Neighborhood Organization is awarded up to $20,000, with a contract start date of October 1st, 2020 through December 31st, 2020...
