Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for, and if awarded, accept funds from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund, for the Right Track youth employment program, in an amount of up to $20,000 for budget and program year 2020.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Cities for Financial Empowerment, an organization that leverages municipal engagement to improve the financial stability of low and moderate income households by embedding financial empowerment strategies into local government infrastructure, has grant funding available to develop linkages between the young people of Saint Paul and safe and appropriate banking products, services, and education; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department wishes to apply for grant funds to provide financial and technical assistance support to Right Track staff in creating a system of supports for Right Track participants to open and use non-custodial bank accounts while earning their first paychecks in summer jobs and internships with Right Track; and

 

WHEREAS, one of the strategic initiatives of Right Track is to develop the financial literacy skills of Right Track participants; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the purpose of the grant funds are consistent with the mission of the Right Track program; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Saint Paul hereby authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for, and if awarded, accept grant funds from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund in an amount of up to $20,000 for budget and program year 2020.
