Amending the 2020 budget by adding the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) and this grant was accepted on (RES 18-1742); and

 

WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to support all components of the criminal justice system, from multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment and justice information sharing initiatives; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, serving as the fiscal agent for this award, will share the grant funds with one disparate jurisdiction within Ramsey County and each jurisdiction’s allocation will be used for activities and projects that will provide meaningful and measureable outcomes consistent with the goals of the grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the department was awarded $240,044 for the grant term through September 30, 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, a 2020 financing and spending plan needs to be established; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $240,044 in excess of those estimated in the 2020 budget and recommends the following changes; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice and approves these changes to the 2020 budget.
