Authorizing the Police Department to donate equipment from the disbanded mounted unit to multiple organizations.
Body
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Saint Paul Police Department’s (SPPD) operational needs, the Police Department has discontinued service of its mounted patrol unit; and
WHERERAS, the SPPD has equipment that is no longer useful because of the disbanded unit and would like to make donations to organizations that would put the equipment to use including saddles, bits and other supplies that are used for horse care and service with a total estimated value of $2,142; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to City Administrative Code section 2.02, surplus materials and supplies may be transferred to a bona fide charitable, educational, religious or fraternal nonprofit organization; and
WHEREAS, the organizations identified to put good use to these supplies are the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association, the Saint Paul Police Mounted Foundation, This Old Horse and the Saint Paul Police Historical Society; and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the transfer of this equipment that no longer has a useful purpose in the Police Department to these organizations.
