Title

Authorizing the Fire Department to accept the 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant in the amount of $1,470,861 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to hire nine additional firefighters.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Fire Department would like to accept the 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to hire 9 additional firefighters; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant will provide $1,470,861 to support these additional firefighter positions over the next 3 years; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant requires a decreasing federal share over time, with an increasing local share; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department would provide the local match of $914,319 over the three year period; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant period performance would be January 2020 through January 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department was given permission to apply for this grant on RES 19-474 which was approved on March 20, 2019; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Fire Department to accept the 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant and to sign such documents as may be required.
