Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to accept funding from Polar Bears International for travel expenses for Senior Zookeeper to present and moderate at Polar Bear Workshop, November 4-7, 2019 in Toronto, Canada.
Body
WHEREAS, the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is an active participant in the captive polar bear community; and
WHEREAS, Polar Bears International (PBI) is supported by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and has requested Como Park Zoo and Conservatory’s participation in the Polar Bear Workshop 2019; and
WHEREAS, PBI is prepared to pay for flight, hotel, transportation, and lodging for staff to attend the workshop at an estimated cost of $1200; and
WHEREAS, participation in the Workshop will be a valuable opportunity for staff and the zoo to share and grow their knowledge of polar bear husbandry; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that there is a public purpose for the expenditure of the travel expenses in ensuring that Como Zoo continues to be considered as a leader in the polar bear community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby thanks Polar Bears International (PBI) and greatfully accepts the funding for the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Zoo staff to attend the Polar Bear Workshop 2019.
