Accepting the gift of travel expenses from The Aspen Institute for Mayor Melvin Carter to attend “CityLab: Urban Solutions to Global Challenges” in Washington, D.C. on October 26-29, 2019.

Body

WHEREAS, The Aspen Institute in partnership with The Atlantic and Bloomberg Philanthropies hosts an annual global summit called “CityLab” that is attended by leading mayors, chief innovation officers, policymakers, business leaders, artists and activists; and

WHEREAS, “CityLab” seeks to celebrate urban life by exploring solutions to the most pressing issues facing city leaders and residents alike through panel discussions, one-on-one conversations, workshops and field trips, and by showcasing the dynamism and ingenuity that drive a thriving city; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Carter has been invited to attend the 2019 summit titled “CityLab: Urban Solutions to Global Challenges” in Washington, D.C. on October 26-29, 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Aspen Institute has offered to cover the travel expenses, lodging and meals for Mayor Carter to attend the summit; and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that attendance at this convening is beneficial to the City by providing an opportunity for participants to engage in sessions to develop expertise, obtain practical knowledge, and development of a professional network; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the gift of travel expenses, lodging and meals for Mayor Carter to attend “CityLab: Urban Solutions to Global Challengesin Washington, D.C. and thanks the Aspen Institute for its generous gift.
