Authorizing the Planning and Economic Development Department to accept the donation of travel and hotel costs from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for the Director of Business Development to attend the Beyond Economic Impact Symposium.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation is a national foundation with strong local roots that fosters informed and engaged communities, which is essential for a healthy democracy; 

 

WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation is supporting the Beyond Economic Impact Symposium (the “Symposium”), in New York City, New York, from October 16-18, 2019;

 

WHEREAS, the Symposium will have discussions and presentations on economic impact and social justice through public realm improvements and community engagement;

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Business Development has been invited to attend the Symposium and the Knight Foundation has agreed to pay for the costs of air travel, lodging, and meals;

 

WHEREAS, the public purpose of the Director of Business Development’s attending the Symposium is to gain information that will benefit PED’s economic development strategy; and

 

WHEREAS, PED would like to accept this unsolicited donation from the Knight Foundation with an estimated value of $2,500 (two thousand five hundred dollars); now

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the generous donation and extends its sincere thanks to the Knight Foundations, 200 S. Biscayne Blvd, Ste 3300, Miami, FL 33131.
