Authorizing the Planning and Economic Development Department to accept the donation of travel and hotel costs from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for the Director of Business Development to attend the 2019 Knight Augmenting Cities Conference.

WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation is a national foundation with strong local roots that fosters informed and engaged communities, which is essential for a healthy democracy;
WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation is sponsoring the 2019 Knight Augmenting Cities Conference (the “Conference”), in Oakland, California, from September 23-24;
WHEREAS, the Conference will have discussions and presentations on city design and democratic process through informed and engaged communities;
WHEREAS, the Director of Business Development has been invited to attend the Conference and the Knight Foundation has agreed to pay for the costs of travel, air, lodging, and meals;
WHEREAS, the public purpose of the Director of Business Development’s attending the Conference is to gain information that will benefit PED’s economic development strategy; and
WHEREAS, PED would like to accept this unsolicited donation from the Knight Foundation with an estimated value of $2,500 (two thousand five hundred dollars); now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the generous donation and extends its sincere thanks to the Knight Foundations, 200 S. Biscayne Blvd, Ste 3300, Miami, FL 33131.
