Accepting a 2020 Byrne Justice Assistance Criminal and Juvenile Justice Intervention grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, in the amount of $100,000 for the City’s ETHOS program.
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, has granted $100,000.00 to the City Attorney’s Office for the purpose of supporting the City’s pilot program, ETHOS, from October 1, 2019, through September 30, 2021;
WHEREAS, the City Attorney’s Office was awarded the $100,000.00 2020 Byrne Justice Assistance Criminal and Juvenile Justice Intervention grant to support the implementation of ETHOS and the professional services of the City’s restorative justice partners necessary for this alternative to traditional prosecution whereby first-time, non-violent offenders can address the harm caused by their actions by connecting with community members to take accountability for their actions and find a way to heal the victim, the community and themselves;
WHEREAS, the spending plans for these monies include community member trainings, case development and follow-up, and coordination and operation of the ETHOS circle process; and
NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE City Council accepts the grant.
