Authorizing the City Attorney's Office to pursue an available funding opportunity offered by the Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Welcoming America is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works to encourage and support communities to be more inclusive and welcoming towards immigrants, and

 

WHEREAS, Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council (a non-profit action organization created by the American Immigration Lawyers Association) convened a number of organizations to explore how they might work together to deepen inclusion across the nation, and

 

WHEREAS, Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council is also beginning local level experimentation through a national inclusion campaign pilot project, and

 

WHEREAS, this national inclusion campaign pilot project is a competitive opportunity to support three local communities in testing out new collaborations and new inclusion strategies that bring together community members from different backgrounds in a spirit of a neighbor-helping-neighbor, or Do-It-Together, and

 

WHEREAS, Pilot communities will receive a six-month, $15,000 seed grant; direct coaching and technical assistance; and national recognition for successful efforts, and

 

WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office would like to develop programing that would encourage and support communities in Saint Paul to be more inclusive and welcoming towards immigrants, and

 

WHEREAS, participation in this grant would provide an opportunity to develop such programming, and

 

WHEREAS, we recognize that participating in Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council’s National Inclusion Campaign Pilot Project benefit the residents of the City of St. Paul, and

 

WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office, wishes to pursue the available funding opportunity offered by the Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council by applying for the National Inclusion Campaign Pilot Project Grant, now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED that the St. Paul City Council authorizes the St. Paul City Attorney, Lyndsey M. Olson, and her designees to seek funding on behalf of the City and, if successful, the appropriate city authorities may enter into an agreement with the Welcoming America and the American Immigration Council to accept the funds on behalf of the City.
