Honoring the winners of the Law Day art contest.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Law Day, held annually on May 1, is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law. Law Day provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share; and

 

WHEREAS, the theme of this year’s Law Day was” Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society”, ideals on which our  democratic government is founded and which remain extraordinarily relevant; and

 

WHEREAS, freedom  of speech and the press are among the most important foundations for a free society; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of St. Paul values community engagement and spreading the message to the City’s youth regarding the benefits of the rule of law; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Attorney’s Office in collaboration with the Saint Paul Public Library Agency sponsored an art contest to commemorate  2019 Law Day; and

 

WHEREAS, the artwork submitted showed the unique interplay of these ideals and  are impressive representations of this year’s Law Day theme; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the winner of the high school contest is Mira Seeba, a tenth grader at Como High School, and the winner of the elementary school contest is Arkin Mason, a fifth grader at Nova Classical Academy; and be it


FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council congratulates the winners for their talented representations of a difficult and complex theme.
