Stated Reason for Appeal (if given): I dispute the requirement for 2 receptacles needed for my duplex. I received one small and one medium container without my request, after receiving information that I need not make a request if my current container was adequate. I've used one small garbage container since purchasing this home in 1982. There are two individuals living in this duplex.
Staff Comments: Under citywide garbage service, all residential properties with up to four units, including rental homes and townhomes, are required to have a garbage cart and receive garbage service for each dwelling unit. This was a policy decision made by the City council to ensure that all occupied dwellings are receiving garbage service. There is no option to opt out of the citywide garbage service.
The City does acknowledge that the information provided was not as clear as it could have been. The size of the garbage cart assigned to a property was based on each unit. However, the City did make it clear that each unit would receive its own garbage cart. Previously, the property owner had 1 small garbage cart for one unit and no garbage cart for the other unit. As such, this property was assigned 1 small cart for one unit, and because the second unit did not have garbage service previously, it was automatically assigned a medium cart.
