Authorizing Police Department personnel to travel with the annual trip to Washington, DC in partnership with the Circle of Peace Movement to promote healing in our community.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department will travel to Washington, DC, in partnership with the Circle of Peace Movement, along with seven community members, to further efforts to heal the scars of our painful histories and promote healing in our community.

 

WHEREAS, the annual trip is conducted in partnership with the Circle of Peace Movement, which works to end violence and promote racial healing; and

 

WHEREAS, the travel will include meaningful visits to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the National Law Enforcement Museum; and

 

WHEREAS, the cost of this trip will be approximately $20,060 and will be funded by the grant awarded by the Otto Bremer Trust to the Saint Paul Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the public purpose is to promote community connection, understanding, and engagement; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that city council authorizes the City of Saint Paul Police Department to attend the annual pilgrimage to Washington, DC with the Circle of Peace Movement and community members.
