Authorizing the Department of Public Works to enter into an agreement with the State of Minnesota to receive a grant from the Minnesota Apprenticeship Initiative program.
Body
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota has a Minnesota Apprenticeship Initiative program to offer grants to assist employers with costs associated with developing apprenticeship programs; and
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota via the Minnesota Apprenticeship Initiative program has offered the City of Saint Paul Public Works Department a grant of $20,000 to for the Public Works Department to develop an apprenticeship program; and
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota has a grant agreement that must be signed by the State of Minnesota and the City of Saint Paul;
WHEREAS, one of the terms of the grant agreement is an indemnification clause which requires the City to “The Grantee must indemnify, save, and hold the State, its agents, and employees harmless from any claims or causes of action, including attorney’s fees incurred by the State, arising from the performance of this grant contract by the Grantee or the Grantee’s agents or employees. This clause will not be construed to bar any legal remedies the Grantee may have for the State's failure to fulfill its obligations under this grant contract”; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Work wants to accept this grant and the agreement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the promise of indemnification is appropriate to obtain the grant issued by the State of Minnesota; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Department of Public Works is authorized to accept the State of Minnesota Grant Contract attached.
