Title

Pertaining to a Heritage Grant Agreement between the Minnesota Historical Society and the Board of Water Commissioners to define the administration of grant funding for the Highland Park Tower Repairs project.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul has need to perform repairs on its historic Highland Park Water Tower; and

 

WHEREAS, MacDonald and Mark Architects, Ltd., the Board’s consultant, performed a condition assessment of the tower which was funded by the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants (“MHCHG”) program of the Minnesota Historical Society; and

 

WHEREAS, said assessment was used by staff to develop a plan for repairs and appropriate treatments that maintain the tower’s historic and architectural integrity (the “Highland Park Tower Repair Project”); and

                     

WHEREAS, staff had been directed by the Board at its July 10, 2018 meeting to apply for $250,000 in grant funds to be used to offset the costs of the Highland Park Tower Repair Project from the MHCHG program of the Minnesota Historical Society; and

 

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Historical Society’s Executive Council approved a grant in the amount of $250,000 for such a purpose; and

 

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Historical Society has prepared a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant Agreement (“Grant Agreement”) which details the policies and procedures for the administration of the grant funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board had the legal authority to apply for the grant, and has the financial, technical, and managerial capacity to comply with the Grant Agreement; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Board of Water Commissioners of the City of Saint Paul does hereby approve the Grant Agreement between the Board and the Minnesota Historical Society pertaining to the policies and procedures for the administration of grant funds rewarded as Grant No. 1805-22268 and that the proper officers are hereby authorized and directed to execute said Grant Agreement on behalf of the Board, following approval by the assistant city attorney.
