Accepting the gift of a Phillips Heart Start Automated External Defibrillator (“AED”) for use by the Department of Parks and Recreation at the Duluth and Case Recreation Center.

WHEREAS, Joe Plant was a Saint Paul Police officer who died from an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of 24 and as a result the Joe Plant Memorial Foundation was established to keep Joe’s memory alive, to support those who are passionate about civil service, and to advocate to reduce the often disastrous effects of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in youth and young adults; and
WHEREAS, Adrienne Todd, Director of the Joe Plant Memorial Fund, approached the City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation about a donation of a Phillips Heart Start Automated External Defibrillator (“AED”) valued at $1,200.00 by the Joe Plant Memorial Fund; and
WHEREAS, most occurrences of Sudden Cardiac Arrest occur in public places and AED’s can help increase the chances of survival when Cardiac Arrest occurs; and
WHEREAS, after review of current facility amenities the Department of Parks and Recreation believes that an AED would be appropriate addition to the Duluth and Case Recreation Center; no, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby accepts the donation of a Phillips Heart Start AED and thanks the Joe Plant Memorial Foundation for its generous gift.
